A BILL to amend article four, chapter twelve of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated section fifteen, relating to checks issued by the state in payment for wages and benefits; and social security numbers to appear upon all such checks.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That article four, chapter twelve of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated section fifteen, to read as follows:
ARTICLE 4. ACCOUNTS, REPORTS AND GENERAL PROVISIONS.

§12-4-15. Checks to bear social security numbers.

The social security number of the payee shall appear upon the face of every state check issued for the payment of salaries or wages, workers' compensation benefits, benefits for clients of human services, unemployment compensation benefits and uponchecks issued as retirement benefits to retirees under the several retirement systems of the state or any political subdivision thereof. In the event two or more payees are named upon a check, the social security number of at least one payee shall appear thereupon.



NOTE: This bill provides that all state checks issued for wages or benefits must bear the social security number of the payee.
